We are pleased to announce the award of a new research project titled “Valorization of Vacuum Residue for Energy Storage Application,” funded by the Deanship of Research, KFUPM, with a total grant of SAR 500,000 for 36 months.
The project aims to transform low-value vacuum residue from petroleum refining into high-value carbon materials for energy storage. The research will focus on producing hard carbon for sodium-ion battery anodes and activated carbon for supercapacitor electrodes, followed by material characterization, device fabrication, and electrochemical performance evaluation.
The project contributes to waste valorization, circular economy, and sustainable energy storage, while supporting the research and innovation objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
